Idera Story
Created by a mom
My name is Nimota, and through Idera Collective, my team and I curate a collection of handcrafted items that celebrate the vibrant colors and patterns that shaped my upbringing in Nigeria.
I moved to Germany in Winter 2009 for studies. I was fascinated by German culture and the people. I immersed myself in the culture and quickly picking up the language. I studied Civil Engineering at HTWG Konstanz and shortly after graduating, I started working full-time at an engineering office specializing in road construction. In 2018, I Co-founded an NGO, Idera e.V., to support children in underserved communities in Nigeria to access education.
In 2020, I got married and my husband, who is also Nigerian, moved to Germany, and we started a family. Raising children of Nigerian heritage in Germany has been exciting. Our Nigerian culture is a source of pride and joy for us, and we want it to be the same for our daughters too. Struggling to find authentic African-inspired clothing and toys for them revealed a significant gap in the European market and it inspired me to start Idera Collective.
"Idera" is a Yoruba word (a Nigerian language) for comfort, reflecting thecomforting essence of many African cultures.
